Carl 7 Please don’t recommend running commands like this as root it’s not only a security problem, a tool which leaves log files behind may then block the user from overwriting those ; granting permission to the device node as in the second half of your post is far more appropriate.

I also have successfully installed the driver, IDE, etc. Please upgrade to a Xilinx. My environment is Quartus Prime Read the manual or user guide.

Im broke at the minuite so I can only aford cheap equipmet to get started on. I just tried the same cable and USB Blaster with a windows machine though and it worked fine.
Search the forums and search the web for similar topics.
Its the same for me, device is recognized, drivers install but I get a different error message: Any way to figure out what’s going on? To check byteblastter this is indeed a port permission problem, start the trouble-shooting by running jtagd the deamon between the Altera tool and the driver as root.
There are low-cost Xilinx USB cable clones there.

I suppose byteboaster I could get the same virtual machine image working under Virtualbox and VMWare server then I could perhaps put to rest the possibility that its the Windows install at fault.
Working now for me! Btyeblaster not post the same question on multiple forums. On a side note, jtagd will be started by jtagconfig if not already running, as the same user that started jtagd. For further trouble-shooting, running jtagd with some debug command-line options can give useful information: Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type.
